The management of University of Benin, UNIBEN under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faraday Orumwense has increased the cost of registering courses across all faculties of the University according to reports on campus.

A reported sum of Two hundred and thirty million naira will be generated from this increase from over seventy-seven thousand students of the University. Some are increased from #2000 to #3000, some from #3000 to #4000 and some from #4000 to #6000.

Meanwhile, some students of the University across various faculties have registered their displeasure on the increments of their course registration without the school stating reason behind that.

While talking to our reporter, Ayoola on campus, few students who pleaded anonymity said that it will be unfair for the management to do that for no reason

“My own is, tell us what the money is for, and tell us why we are paying 3000 naira.

Another student was aggrieved that he calls for protest. “Let’s mobilize ourselves and see what we can achieve.

Elsewhere, a student told our reporter what his HOD said, “Last time, our HOD said it’s for departmental maintenance and upkeep.

“He mentioned a lot of things like marker, external Supervisors for project defense, etc. he also stated that they do not get Allocation from anywhere. The Student told our reporter.

However, this remains a rumor as the University authority is yet to release an official statement to disclaim or lay claim to this rumor circulating on campus.

Our effort to reach the school PRO has been futile as his line is not going through.

Will it be official that there will be increase in the students’ course registration across all faculties?

What will be the reason for the increment? These questions are begging for answers as we keep our fingers crossed.
