PROJECT 2022 TASK FORCE Stage ‘Save Our Football’ Protest In Benin, Sue For Review Of NFF Statute

Ayoola Adeleke

In an unrelenting pace of sensitizing the world and calling on the current Nigerian football administration, the train of ‘Save Our Football’, an offshoot of The Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), on Monday stopped in Benin City with a peaceful rally that lasted for about one hour around the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium axis.

The proceeding started from inside the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium with ex-internationals turned administrators as well as other stakeholders marching peacefully through the stadium road to Oba Akenzua road with a display of placards and big banners calling for the Amaju Pinnick led the board to do the needful.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the proceeding, General Secretary of the Project 2022 Task Force, Edema Fuludu pointed out the purpose of the rally, the third of its kind.

“The task force objective is to ensure that we have a standard operating system in Nigerian football as is obtainable worldwide. We know that Nigeria Football has gone down the drain over some time, especially in the last eight years under Amaju Pinnick led board and the task force’s responsibility had been that we want to change the statute of the NFF so that we can have equal representation of our block, all footballers and the players union to get an avenue to run Nigeria Football.”

“Today, we are here on the sixth day of June 2022 as the third rally leg we have come to. We have done this in Abuja, Lagos and this in Benin City of Edo State and we’ll also go to other states nationwide – we will move to Delta and we’ve been contacted to come to Jos and other places.”

“People are not happy with the way our football is going in this country. People are not happy we could not get to the two Nations Cup back to back. People are not happy we could not qualify for Qatar 2022. These are the myriads of others concerning the maladministration of football in Nigeria has led us to say we want to take the bull by the horn.”

“It’s time for the NFF board led by Amaju Pinnick to throw in the towel and resign so we can have a footpath to future development in Nigeria Football. We are interested in Nigeria’s Football growth.”

“The players are suffering, our league is nothing to write home about, we want a quality league where we can measure the standard of football in Nigeria. It is not only about the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but football development is also measured by the quality of the league of a country and we have nothing to show as a result and this has become an anomaly we need to correct.”

“That is why the task force is taking this thing to the extreme to ensure we can turn the tide and make sure we have equal representation and those who are interested in becoming the president of the NFF can have the avenue. It is time for us to know we are five members of the NFF — The Players Union, The Players Association, The Coaches Association, The League and the FAs. If there are five members of the federation, how can one member be having 36 representatives as delegates? There is no room for anybody to get to the apex of Nigerian Football, we need to change the narrative of Nigerian football which is why we are here today.”

“We are here today, to sensitise the world. We will not relent until the new dawn comes into Nigeria Football,” he quipped.

In the same tone, Chief Victor Rumson Baribote registered the displeasure of the Task Force – an offshoot of the players Union.
“Well, in this protest, we are not witch-hunting anybody. if you are a leader of football administration in the country it is expected that you bring back the gains of football administration.”

“So what we are experiencing in the past eight years is rather than advancing our football or bringing back the gains of football administration to Nigeria instead people are using it to develop themselves. And in fact out of the five members if you look at it, the referees, the coaches, depend on what the players are bringing to the table, today if you ask the board of the Nigeria Football Federation, to come to Ogbemudia Stadium, you can count the number of people. But when you talk about the Edema Fuludus, the Harrison Jalas, and the Austin Popo, with the current numbers of players playing, you can see the gate cannot contain people. The game belongs to the players.

“So what we are simply saying is, fine we have allowed outside people to administer, thinking they can do better. Even colonisation, there’s a period we said enough of this. If you are not a governor, you cannot be chairman of the Governor’s forum. That this is about football, so when football is being discussed you expect that the players who are the ingredients, who are the owners, should form the better part of it. We are not saying others cannot come in, but we want to have our rightful place.”

“And in all, the people who are doing it are not doing it well, what we are saying is enough of this maladministration and enough of us the players, the owners of the game being relegated to the background.”

The General Secretary, Board of Trustees of the Professional Footballers Association, Comrade Austin Popo, called for having the right people in the right position as laid down by the statute of international football standards.

“It’s part of this administration. As you said, the strength of any football nation is measured in the domestic league. When you don’t have a visible league, when we cannot produce one player from the domestic league to play in the national team, in the past days, the likes of Edema Fuludu started from NNPC FC and the rest, people like Finidi started from Sharks, at a time we were teammates at the State camp.”

“You know Nigeria’s we have a playing tradition. We combine skill with robustness, but that has been taken away by bringing anyone that has it. You cannot play the Brazilian style of football more than the Brazilians, you cannot play the European style of football more than the Europeans. You cannot bring the Europeans to come and play and we feel we can do it better. And for us to do it better, we must bring in those people who have the wherewithal, the technical ability.”

“I don’t want to be personal, people that are heading the technical department of the NFF, how technical are they? While the players who have played the game, in our youthful days contribute to this football. Allow the people who own the take to manage their affairs.”

The protest was led by the General Secretary of the Task Force of the Save Our Football, Comrade Edema Fuludu, Secretary Board of Trustees Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Austin Popo, Chief Rumson Baribote, Chairman PFAN Edo Chapter, David Aigbovo amongst others.

Tanimu Scores As Bendel Insurance Pipped Abia Comets To Go Top In NNL Group B2

Birthday boy, Tanimu Benjamin’s beautiful header on the 26th minute was all Bendel Insurance needed to beat visitors, Abia Comet, in week rescheduled NNL week 16 match as they climbs the NNL group B table with superior goal difference to Remo Stars, both on 34 points.

First Half
Bendel Insurance who went into the rescheduled fixtures with full confidence on the backdrop of their 2-0 victory over Holy Arrows in a 19-minutes game at the cathedral, Enugu, dominated play from their blast of the whistle as they made their opponents search for the ball through the first 30 minutes.

Birthday boy, Tanimu Benjamin was in the right place at the right time as he brilliantly headed home a beautifully taken corner kick from the left flank of his team by Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi, to put the ‘Benin Arsenal’ up against their slacking opponents, throwing the team’s bench and the VIP box into jubilation mood.

Abia Comets looked disappointed as their game plan was beginning to fail them in the hands of Bendel Insurance who keeps stringing passes together and throwing in crosses from left and right sides of the field as well as maintaining discipline at the back – putting a stop to every counter attacks launched at them.

The first half ended on a positive note for the host, with smiles all over the faces of personalities sited at the state’s box.

Second Half
Second Half started from where it stopped for the host, who knocks the ball around in style to the cheering of roaring voices of the scanty VIPs box – delighted by how coordinated the team is in attacking and defending with no iota of fear.

Abia Comets will try to halt the flow of play of Insurance with tripple substitution on the 49th minute, Coach Bethel Orji, sending in Okoro Marshall, Ifeanyi Ameobi and Douglas Ebuka for Michael Gideon, Babajiide Isaiah and Solomon Michael respectively.

Insurance will not rest on their hoax as they seek for the second goal which could seal the victory for them, Abia Comets defense meanwhile will not allow everything thrown at them results into positive runs for the home side as they keep their cool at the back.

Comets will get a counter attack from a clearance on the 57th minutes of the game, but the assistant Referee was spot on to raise his flag for offside and denied Abia Comets a chance to test Amas Obasogie, who had been on holiday while in goal

Insurance made their first substitution on the 58th minute, sending in Oshoke Matthew for Simon Elijah to boost their attack.

Insurance had a freekick at the edge of the corner flag from their right side of attack on the 79th minutes, fine delivery, but weak header from Weyinmi saw the ball goes straight into the Abia Comets goalkeeper’s gloves.

Hycent Oleh gives way for Kayode Agboola on the 79th minute to see if he can turn to good the fortune of his side, but little will his coming on would do to threaten Insurance’s backline.

Insurance switched to 3-4-3 formation for the later stage of the game taking over their lacklustre opponents who had only two shots on target – unlike their hosts, who kept their goalkeeper and backline busy all day – from a freekick and a weak shot from the edge of the box which Amas calmly collected and caressed like a day old baby.

The center Referee will signal the end of the match after two minutes of added time were exhausted and sent Insurance into jubilation – knowing fully well they sits atop group B2 of the NNL, above Remo Stars – both on same points, 34, – but on superior goals difference.

Aftermath
Birthday boy and match winner, Tanimu Benjamin was celebrated by teammates and team officials which includes team manager, Sabina Amiemenoghena Chikere and another team official, Sixtus Omokhaigbon, with a portable, but well decorated cake carrying Bendel Insurance’s insignia.

Bendel Insurance will next play against Apex Krane in Wednesday, 28th July 2021, at the Ogbemudia Stadium in their last outstanding match of the season.

CSED Donates Books To University of Benin

As part of their goal of developing the capacity of future social workers in Nigeria, the National Coordinator of Community Sport and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative recently visited the Social Work Department, University of Benin.

During this visit, CSED National Coordinator, Edema Fuludu met with the Head of the Social Work Department, Dr. Omoregiuwa and some other academic staff of the Department. Edema Fuludu donated 60 academic books and journals, as well as two cartons of drug awareness brochures to the Department. These drug awareness brochures were freely donated by one of CSED supporters, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World. There were one thousand drug awareness brochures in the two cartons.

Receiving the books and brochures on behalf of the Department, the Head of the Department of Social Work, Dr. Omoregiuwa said that she was happy to receive the free social work books and brochures which would be put to good use by the students of the Department.

She thanked the Trustees of CSED for their kind gesture. Dr. Omoregiuwa commended CSED founder, Cornelius Ehimiaghe and CSED National Coordinator, Edema Fuludu for making the hand over of these free items possible. Dr. Omoregiuwa used the opportunity to thank a staff of the Department, Dr. Ernest Osas Ugiagbe, through who contact was made and prayed that CSED continue their good work of developing human capacity.

Cornelius Ehimiaghe later stated that he was motivated to make this donation because UNIBEN gave his widow mother the opportunity of employment in the 1990s and his mother used the salary she earned from UNIBEN to train him to
become a social worker.

In future, CSED would be willing to collaborate with the Department in organising safe guarding training for the students of the Department. As well as using our “PROJECT2027” grass roots netball development programme to empower the girl child in some of the girls’ schools where the students of the Department do their field placement.

Unrest in Glass House over Twist in Delta State FA; FIFA Asking the NFF Questions.

Following the petition to FIFA on NFF intransigence and unwholesome interference on the Delta FA elections held on June 13 2019, as won by ex-internationals, Edema Fuludu and Victor Ikpeba as Chairman and Vice chairman respectively where the NFF under the leadership of former Chairman, Delta State FA, Amaju Pinnick later came out with what is seen in many quarters as an aberration, but called Normalization committee by the Glass House to conduct another election on September 15 2020, which has brought about a factional Delta State FA, the world football governing, FIFA have registered interest in knowing what the real situation is.

Information exclusive to Platinum News through a reliable source, has it that the world football governing body, FIFA, has written the NFF questioning their alleged interference.

The source revealed that the NFF as we speak is preparing a defence of a supposed suspension given to the chairman, Edema Fuludu while he was in Acting Chairman capacity.

The facts that are in the public domain could be an argument raising a question of why where persons begging him (Edema Fuludu) to allow Tony Okowa become the DFA Chairman if he was suspended!

Platinum News can confirm that there were offers of various appointments to Edema Fuludu, to take up the Vice Chairman role.

Further findings by Platinum News also has it that in a bid to oust the ex-international by all means, Delta North senatorial district mantra of rotational FA chairmanship was also set up.

The source also confirmed to us that the setting up of Normalization committee was nothing, but the root of creating crisis where there was none from the onset.

Another questions the source raised were, why did they (NFF) start and stopped the formal set up of Arbitration as requested by the South South FA Chairmen on non recognition of the FA as led by Edema Fuludu after the July 13 2019 Elections.?

The sourced concluded by saying that football at developmental level will only see the lights of the day if seeds of discords are not planted by those who believe only in political and money power.

“Facts are sacrosanct! The lies they are planning as defence will not work, peace can never exist where Injustice is barring it’s fangs.”

“We want peace and they refused to sit with us because they believe in political and money power. Our football at developmental level can only thrive if imposition is nailed in a coffin.”

Reaching out to the affected Chairman of Delta State FA, Edema Fuludu on Wednesday evening, the ex-International vehemently said that what himself and his board stands for is nothing but justice.

“I and my board stand on the principle of fair play justice and equity.”

“The factional Delta State FA created is standing on the tripod of IMPUNITY, ILLEGALITY AND INJUSTICE,” Fuludu added added.
